TIED BY THE WILL OF THE PEOPLE
A time-lapse documentary about the Czech presidential campaign, the first direct election of the President in the Czech Republic and its final result.
The documentary looks behind the scenes of the direct election, focusing on the duel between Miloš Zeman and Karel Schwarzenberg and creating a polemical portrait of a historical event with comic elements. Miroslava Němcová, chairwoman of the Chamber of Deputies of the Czech Parliament, says: “The presidential election will not contribute to the calm of Czech politics. It will be a big media circus.” Is Mrs. Němcová right? Who paid Miloš Zeman’s campaign? Is Karel Schwarzenberg really a punk? Has controversial lobbyist Miroslav Šlouf beaten a retreat? Does Karel Schwarzenberg’s participation in Nečas’ government harm him? What are the things that the presidential candidates need to be subjected to in order to make it to the Castle? Do we need a president at all?”
